Governance Experience

Treasurer – Renters United
October 2024 – Present

I am supporting Renters United to develop a fundraising plan to drive long-term fiscal sustainability. I also play a key role in steering our political campaigns and engagements, to support and empower renters and renters rights.

University Council Member – University of Otago
January 2023 – December 2023

This was an ex-officio appointment during my tenure as OUSA President. My time on council came at a period of serious change for the university. This include the development of the University of Otago ‘Pae Tata – Strategic Plan to 2030’, the final stages of development of the Universities new visual identity ‘Tuakiritaka’, Vice-Chancellor Recruitment, and an adverse enrolment situation that required swift, targeted, strategic governance to get the University back on track.

The skills I have learnt during my tenure on council have been invaluable, and I’ve been fortunate to work with a team of experienced governors, who have mentored me throughout.

President Otago University Students Association
January 2023 – December 2023

In this role I chaired the governing board of the students association, which is a Tier 2 charity. In this role I led a focus on student advocacy and political engagement, as well as oversaw the final stages of a commercial restructure.

I was also the official spokesperson for the association, which required me to work closely with media and external stakeholders, and navigate a sometimes challenging press environment.

In this role I sat on a number of governance groups and boards at the University of Otago. These included:
– University Senate (responsible for governance of academic affairs)
– Learner Success Plan Steering Group (now the Learner Success Plan Governance Group)

In this role I was given the opportunity to chair student focus groups for the recruitment of:
– Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic
– Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori

I also sat on the recruitment panel for the Manager – Pastoral Care Code.
